    How yoga can help advisors

On this International Yoga Day, here are five reasons why advisors should make yoga part of their life.

Yoga is known to be good for everyone, be it a professional, a homemaker or a student. Yoga can be extremely important for advisors because of the busy lives they lead. Advisors are often too busy attending to their clients; they rarely find time for themselves.

Just as SIP pays off in the long term, a 45 to 60-minute yoga routine can be beneficial for your long-term health. Let us see why you need to start practising yoga today!

    Immediate stress relief

Advisors are usually under a lot of stress as most IFAs are functioning on their own, handing multiple roles single-headedly. They are usually preoccupied with sales, client relations, handling client portfolios, filling out forms, getting clients registered – the list goes on.

Because of the numerous tasks that need to get done all at once, IFAs are usually under a lot of stress. Culling out 1 hour from their busy day, preferably early in the morning, will help them cope with the remaining hours of the day with greater efficiency. Yoga can go a long way in helping IFAs manage their stress levels.

    Holistic health solution

Unlike other types of workout, yoga is not just for the body, but also for the mind. Regular practitioners benefit by increased physical and mental health, including greater powers of concentration and focus. The various yogic asanas (postures) and pranayama (breathing exercises) also aim at activating the internal organs, and prevent diseases like diabetes, gastric disorders, thyroidism, kidney stones, among others.

Yoga also gives relief to many of the ailments that plague advisors, including back pain, joint pains, high blood pressure, etc.

    Increases energy

Have you ever felt too tired after spending an entire day meeting clients that you had no energy for anything else? Well experts say that yoga is designed to re-energise you by relaxing your muscles and calming your mind.

Yoga increases blood flow to your brain and muscles. This leads to increased energy levels. Not only will you be able to utilise all the time you spend at work, you will also be able to do other things you did not have the energy for earlier.

    Better relationships

Tired people are more likely to lose their temper. Losing your temper often, might create friction in both your professional and personal life. People, who practise yoga, have better control over their emotions. This makes it easier for them to maintain relationships.

This trait will come in handy for advisors who need to deal with difficult clients. It will also help advisors have an enriched family life, as your close ones will experience the change in your energy levels, giving you a better work-life balance.

    Anywhere, anytime

The best thing about yoga is that it can be practised anywhere anytime. All you need to ensure is that you practise the asanas and pranayama on an empty stomach. This is probably the best solution for advisors who are hard pressed for time.

While many associate yoga with surya namaskar, which may seem a challenging package, there are several simpler and easier poses for beginners, which can be done sitting on a chair or standing. Even a five-minute deep breathing session, through alternate nostrils, can go a long way in relaxing you and prevent health complications in the future.

If you have been avoiding yoga because you think you do not have the time, think again! You can start by doing some of the simple exercises and then go on to the more demanding ones. Doing yoga with your family can be an interesting way to bond, while simultaneously talking care of your health.

Wish you all a healthy International Yoga Day!
