The quarterly assets under management (AUM) of the mutual fund industry reached an all-time high of Rs.22 lakh crore. AMFI data shows that quarterly AUM of the MF industry has increased to Rs.22.35 lakh crore in the quarter ended December 2017 from Rs.20.94 lakh crore in the quarter ended September 2017, a growth of 7%.

Quarterly AUM is the average assets of the entire quarter, which is calculated by factoring in all working days of three months.

The growth is largely due to sustained inflows in equity funds through both lumpsum and SIPs and mark to market gains. While the fund house has been receiving average monthly inflows of Rs.6000 through SIP, the mutual fund industry has witnessed net inflows of Rs.64,000 crore in equity funds in two months i.e. October-November 2017. In December, the Nifty crossed 10,500 for the first time, while the Sensex hit an all-time high of 33,960. Both Nifty and Sensex grew 7% and 9% respectively, in the last quarter.

In terms of AUM, ICICI Prudential, HDFC, Reliance, Aditya Birla Sun Life and SBI Mutual Fund continue to occupy the top five positions. The fund houses recorded an AUM of Rs.2.93 lakh crore, Rs.2.89 lakh crore, Rs.2.43 lakh crore, Rs.2.41, Rs.2.05 lakh crore respectively.

In absolute terms, the second largest fund house HDFC MF saw highest AUM growth of Rs.19,387 crore or 7% to reach 2.89 lakh crore in October-December 2017.

In terms of percentage, Mahindra Mutual Fund witnessed the highest percentage growth of 26% in October-December 2017.

Other emerging fund houses such as Edelweiss, Motilal Oswal, Mirae Asset and BOI AXA have recorded healthy growth of 23%, 22% and 21.9 and 21.5%, respectively.

Of the 39 AMCs, only six fund houses –DHFL Pramerica, Invesco, Baroda Pioneer, LIC, IIFL and Escorts,  witnessed a decline in their quarterly AUM.
