‘Advisors save investors from taking irrational investment decisions’

HDFC MF has launched a web-series 'Bachat, Nivesh aur Aap’.
    Shreeta Rege Jun 23, 2018

Under their investor awareness initiative, HDFC MF has come out with a Hindi series on YouTube to educate investors on savings, investing and mutual funds. The series follows an episodic format with each video focussing on a key concept.

In each short film of around 15 minutes, Krishan Sharma, Associate VP and National Lead Training at HDFC MF, tackles one investor centric topic with a dash of wit and good dose of common sense.

Talking to Cafemutual, Milind Barve, MD, HDFC Mutual Fund said that the fund house has ensured that the script was kept simple and jargon free to make it easy to understand for audience.

Describing the web-series, Shyamali Basu, Senior VP and Head, Products and Marketing, HDFC MF stresses the importance of language in spreading financial literacy. “Far more Indians are fluent in Hindi than English.  Thus, having a knowledge series in Hindi will help us connect even with those people who may not understand English. This year, we have 17 episodes in pipeline on different investor topics. They will be uploaded fortnightly on first and third Friday of the month.”

In the latest episode, Krishan talks about the role of advisors in wealth creation journey of an investor. In the age of information explosion, Krishan throws light on the real role of an advisor in an investor’s life. Giving examples from diverse spheres like mythology, mountaineering and medicine, he drives home the point that an advisor is a ‘mentor not a pointer’. To elaborate, today an investor can easily find the best performing scheme online or through newspaper; he does not need an advisor to point to the best performing scheme. The role of an advisor is much more complex - it is to protect their clients from taking irrational investment decisions based on emotions.

The first episode meanwhile, covers an interesting topic, the need for investment. Here Krishan, gives the audience a sneak peek into the history of money. In simple and relatable terms, he explains the concept of inflation. Finally, he highlights how rising prices have made investing necessary.

You can watch the  web-series here.

Wow...on one hand they are cutting out commissions taking help from SEBI and on the other hand they are telling us to educate the investors. This means that they will use us now and will throw us away once our education to clients is complete and they can poach on them in the garb of direct scheme and forcefully inflict RIA on us and the investors which is malicious in nature and unjustified for crores of people of my country.
