The mutual fund industry is continuously witnessing an uptrend in the folio count as more investors pool in their investments in it. According to the latest SEBI data, the mutual fund industry added over 10 lakh folios in June, taking the total folio count close to 6 crore.
Reflecting the positive sentiment, the total investor base in equity funds stood at 3.42 crore. The MF industry added nearly 7 lakh folios in June in equity category alone. AMFI data shows that equity funds have received net inflows of over Rs7,400 crore in June.
Similarly, ELSSs are continuously gaining traction and witnessed an addition of around 90,000 MF folios in June. AMFI data shows that ELSSs received net inflows of close to Rs711 crore at the same time.
Balanced funds, though, are the flavour of season. The category continued the positive momentum by adding over 1.90 lakh folios. It received net inflows of Rs7,458 crore in June.
Equity ETFs that were witnessing a decline in its folio count for the last three months, saw some positive momentum last month. The category added over 1,500 folios in June and mopped up close to Rs1,400 crore at the same time.

Gold ETFs are continuously witnessing a decline in its folio count and inflows since the last few months. The category saw a decline of 4,250 folios in June and witnessed an outflow of Rs81 crore at the same time.
Debt funds witnessed a healthy addition of 70,000 folios in June. While income funds added nearly 50,000 folios, liquid funds added close to 20,000 folios. Also, gilt funds that were not showing any traction in the last few months saw addition of nearly 2,200 folios in June. However, all the debt funds witnessed outflows in June.
The fund of funds category is seeing continuous erosion in folios. The number of folios in overseas fund of funds category dropped by 1,887 in June.
