Investment in the low cost NPS has just got cheaper. PFRDA has appointed Karvy Computershare as the second Central Recordkeeping Agency (CRA), which has quoted less annual maintenance fees, transaction charges and account opening charges.

With this, subscribers of NPS will have an option to choose between NSDL e-Governance infrastructure and Karvy Computershare.

A CRA is the core infrastructure for NPS. It is responsible for recordkeeping, administration and customer service functions for all subscribers of the NPS.

PFRDA has clarified that NPS subscribers can choose their own CRA with effect from April 1, 2017. “The choice of CRA can be made by the employer (existing or prospective) between the existing CRA and the new CRA depending on the policy of employer in case where there is employer-employee relationship,” the PFRDA said.

PFRDA has said, “Apart from giving choices to the subscribers to swap between two CRAs, Karvy’s entry into the domain is also expected to bring competition on the issue of charges charged by a Central Recordkeeping Agency.”

In fact, NSDL has already revised its annual maintenance charges, account opening charges and transaction fee.

IFAs can sell NPS by registering themselves with PFRDA as a Retirement Adviser.

It was heard last time, PFRDA is allowing CAMS to register ARN / EUIN holders to promote the NPS to their clients.

As Financial Planner I always suggest my clients to have NPS in their retirement portfolio.

Untill now there is no confirmation. Can you please throw some light on this.
