Thanks to fresh inflows in existing funds on the back of a correction in markets, equity funds continued to add new folios in November. The Sensex had dropped 4% in November.
In fact, the industry saw the highest ever inflows of Rs. 14,597 crore in equities (including balanced funds, ELSS and equity ETFs) in November. This was reflected in the growth in investor accounts as equity category added 7.05 lakh folios in November. Equity funds saw the highest addition in folios (4.95 lakh), followed by balanced funds (1 lakh), ELSS (99,048) and equity ETFs (10,199).
AMFI data shows that the year-to-date (YTD) inflows in equity category (including balanced, ELSS and equity ETFs) has reached Rs. 67,979 crore.

Balanced funds
Balanced funds continued to gain popularity among investors as the category saw an addition of over 1 lakh folios with net inflows of Rs. 1011 crore in November. The year-to-date (YTD) inflows in this category touched Rs. 18,845 crore.
After the changes in tax structure of debt funds, many investors have turned to balanced funds. As a result, the total folios in balanced funds crossed the 30 lakh mark in November.
Debt funds
Debt funds have also seen good traction as the total folio count in this category increased by 82,360 in November, largely due to addition in income funds. Income funds added 63,678
folios in November. Similarly, liquid funds added close to 10,681 folios while gilt funds saw an addition of 2300 folios in November.
ETFs
There was a healthy growth in ETF folios in November. ETFs, which track the equity indices, added 10,199 folios in November. In October, ETFs had added 3481 folios.
Meanwhile, gold ETFs lost over 26,000 folios in November. Value Research data shows that the returns of gold funds was - 8% over a one-month period and -11% over a three-month period.
Overall, the industry added 7.61 lakh folios in November.
