The Finance Ministry has appointed Gurumoorthy Mahalingam as the whole-time Member at SEBI, reports PTI.
Mahalingam will replace Prashant Saran who was heading the investment management division which includes mutual funds at SEBI. Saran’s tenure ended in June this year.
Prior to joining SEBI, G Mahalingam was the Executive Director at RBI. He is MSc in statistics from IIT Kanpur and holds an MBA in international banking and finance from UK.
Meanwhile, the finance ministry has also invited applications for the post of new SEBI chairman as U K Sinha’s tenure ends in February 2017. Sinha was appointed as the eighth SEBI chairman in February 2011 for three years. His tenure was extended twice.
