When I take a holiday break

Read on to find out how these advisors manage their clients while on vacation.

All of us deserve a break. However, what will happen if an advisor decides to go on a vacation? All will be well as long as you are able to manage your clients, say these three advisors. Find out, what all needs to be in place before you go on a vacation.

    Prathiba Girish, Finvise

I go on a vacation every three to four months. Before I leave, I try to finish all the pending work and intimate my clients that I am on vacation.

Usually I send a mail telling them that I am going on a vacation and will be unable to check my mail so in case of any emergencies they can call me on my phone. I also set up an auto reply to my mail, which asks them to contact me over phone.

So far, this has worked well for both my clients and me. In case a client needs my services urgently, I will have no problem attending to it, as most of my work is online.

    Ritesh Sheth, Tejas Consultancy Services

At Tejas Consultancy, we are three families who handle the advisory business. My parents, my brother, my sister-in-law, my wife and me. Usually only one family takes a vacation at any given point of time. However, the entire family takes a break of four days during the first week of April. We inform all our clients about the 4-day break during the on-boarding process itself. Since our offices are open the rest of the year irrespective of holidays, our clients usually have no problem with the setup.

Before we go on our family vacation, we usually complete all backlogs. We intimate our clients that we will be on a vacation for four days and assure them that in case of emergencies they can call us anytime on our phones.

Most of the time, there are no emergencies. If there is any, we ensure that we address their concerns over a phone call.

    Suresh Sadagopan, Ladder7

I go on at least one vacation every year. Before I leave, I ensure that there is no pending work. I also mail my clients to inform that I am going on a vacation. I tell them who they have to contact in my advisory team in case they need something. I also tell them that I am available over mail in case of emergencies.

At Ladder7, we assign relationship managers to each of our clients. These advisors are familiar with their portfolio, so there is usually no need for me to get involved personally. In case, the client feels that my presence is critical I encourage them to contact me via mail. If it is something that is extremely critical, I call the client and talk about a plan of action. However, this is only in extreme emergencies. I mostly avoid sitting on the phone as I feel it defeats the entire purpose of a vacation.
