A lady distributor wants to update her new surname (after marriage) in the ARN. Is it allowed to change name in the ARN? If yes, please help me navigate through the procedure and list of documents required.

Yes, it is possible for a distributor to incorporate name change to his/her ARN. AMFI captures name details from PAN card of ARN holders. So, if there is any mistake in your PAN, it would be in ARN too. There are instances where distributors have to incorporate name change to ARN due to incorrect PAN details.
Currently, there is no standard application form in the industr for requesting a name change. Hence, you can send name change request in a hand written note to AMFI.
Such an application has to be supported by PAN. In your case, the lady IFA has to incorporate changes to her PAN details first. You can submit self attested photocopy of updated PAN along with the handwritten request.
Also, you will be required to send a demand draft of Rs.1180 in favour of Association of Mutual Funds in India payable at your location.
You will have to submit all these documents at CAMS point of sales through post or physically.
