SchoolHouse has sought approval from SEBI to issue units of infrastructure investment trust (InvIT).
Schoolhouse is a project established by Cerestra Ventures, a research led private equity firm focused on investing in real assets in education infrastructure.
An InvIT is like a mutual fund that pools funds from many institutional investors for investing in infrastructure projects such as roads, telecommunication towers or power plants to earn regular returns.
Schoolhouse invests in education infrastructure assets primarily in the K-12 segment (kindergarten to 12th grade). It has invested in a portfolio of 12 such educational assets.
Till now, the Indian InvIT industry has 15 InvITs - Digital Fibre, India Grid, India Infrastructure, Indian Highway Concessions, IndInfravit, IRB Infrastructure Developers, IRB InvIT Fund, MEP Infrastructure, National Highways, Oriental InfraTrust, Powergrid Infra, Roadstar Infra, Shrem InvIT, Tower Infrastructure Trust and Virescent Renewable Energy.
Generally, institutional investors like mutual funds and HNIs invest in units of InvITs as the minimum ticket size is Rs.10 lakh.
