The AIF industry reported an annual growth of 30% in FY 2022-23, shows SEBI data. The AUM i.e. the commitments raised increased from Rs. 6.41 lakh crore in March 2022 to Rs. 8.34 lakh crore as on March 2023.
Of the total AUM, Category II funds account for the largest share of Rs. 6.94 lakh crore, 34% higher than last year. These funds offer exposure to real estate funds, private equity funds and funds for distressed assets which mutual funds cannot.
Category III funds comprising long short funds, long only funds and hedge funds, account for the next highest share of Rs. 80,900 crore and report an 18% annual rise.
The remaining AUM of Rs.58,929 crore came from Category I funds which grew by 10% over the last year. Category I funds invest in start-ups or early stage ventures, social ventures, SMEs or infrastructure funds.
