    The Hurun India Rich List shows that India saw a 29% increase in the number of billionaires, bringing the total to 334 billionaires.

    India is emerging as Asia's leading wealth creation hub whereas China experienced a 25% decline in its number of billionaires, says the report.

    Top 10 wealthiest people of India

    The Adani family has become the richest in India, topping the 'Hurun India Rich List 2024' with a business value of Rs.11.61 lakh crore. Their wealth has grown by 95%, making Gautam Adani the richest man in the country.

    Mukesh Ambani of Reliance Industries comes in second with a net worth of Rs.10.14 lakh crore, followed by Shiv Nadar of HCL with Rs.3.14 lakh crore and Cyrus S. Poonawalla of Serum Institute of India with Rs.2.90 lakh crore.

    Top 10 cities of residence of Hurun India Rich listers

    Mumbai, known as the billionaire capital of Asia, tops the list of cities where the richest people in India live, according to the Hurun India Rich List. The city is home to 92 billionaires, followed by New Delhi with 68. Hyderabad ranks third, with Bengaluru and Chennai rounding out the top five.

    Shah Rukh Khan, who also owns Red Chillies Entertainment, tops the 2024 Hurun India Rich List among celebrities, with a wealth of Rs.7,300 crore. Juhi Chawla, the owner of Kolkata Knight Riders, comes in second with a net worth of Rs.4,600 crore. Hrithik Roshan, who owns the fashion brand HRX, is third with a net worth of Rs.2,000 crore. Amitabh Bachchan ranks fourth with Rs.1,600 crore, followed by Karan Johar with Rs.1,400 crore.

    In a press release, Anas Rahman Junaid, Founder and Chief Researcher, Hurun India, said, “India continues to score Gold in the ‘Wealth Creation Olympics.’ The number of billionaires in 2024 Hurun India Rich List hits triple century, with all the top 20 sectors adding new faces to the list!”

    Here are the other key highlights of the Hurun India Rich List:

    • Kumar Pritamdas Gera and his family saw the highest percentage increase in wealth, growing by 566%
    • Fifteen new individuals joined the top 100 of the Hurun India Rich List for 2024
    • The real estate sector had the most significant impact, with 42 new entrants to the list
    • The report highlights self-made women in India, with Radha Vembu of Zoho topping the list, followed by Falguni Nayar of Nykaa
    • Neha Bansal, co-founder of Lenskart, is the youngest self-made woman entrepreneur on the list at the age of 42
    • Young entrepreneurs featured in the report include Kaivalya Vohra (age 21) and Aadit Palicha (age 22) of Zepto, along with Alakh Pandey (age 32) of Physics Wallah
    • Over 79% of the billionaires in the list are above the age of 50, with around 33% between the ages of 61-70 and 8.5% between 41-50
    • Eighteen individuals on the list have a net worth of Rs. 1 lakh crore or more, up from six in the previous year
    • A total of 1,016 manufacturers added Rs. 28 lakh crore to their wealth this year
    • The youngest billionaires on the list, both 33 years old are Harshil Mathur and Shashank Kumar, founders of Razorpay 
    • 65% of the entrepreneurs are self-made
