    Whose job is this?

Whether you have a team of 3 or 30, an IFA can give clarity of their role to his employees and at the same time have flexibility in the outfit, says Vinayak Sapre.

Whether you have a team of 3 or 30, an IFA can give clarity of their role to his employees and at the same time have flexibility in the outfit, says Vinayak Sapre.

     Scene-1

‘This is not my work’, ‘the person responsible for this work is on leave’ – such excuses are commonplace, especially in government offices. It leads to frustration; people get annoyed and feel helpless, especially if the work is urgent and important.

    Scene-2

You are in the middle of a very important meeting and have kept the phone on silent mode to give full attention to the prospect. Suddenly an important client or who believes he is a very important client starts calling you frantically and you pick up the call, just to discover that it was a very small issue and could have been handled by your assistant. And a thought crosses your mind “This is not my job”.

Any organization tries to define the role of every individual it employs. That brings role clarity to the employee which in turn helps in creating a smooth process and functioning. Does that mean it takes away the flexibility of the organization and the organization becomes dependent on the persons for those specifically assigned job.

The answer is ‘NO’, there is a policy called ‘Job Rotation’.

Is it possible for an IFA with a team size of anywhere from 3 to 300 to give clarity of their role and at the same time have flexibility in the outfit? The answer is “YES”. As in any organization if the IFA’s team is well trained in their specific assigned job roles, it will make life much easier. Most importantly the people, who are its biggest assets, will be happy because their reward and recognition is now defined.

The other benefits are productivity enhancement, better client servicing, better experience for the client,  easy client acquisition and above all a process driven organization.

However, it doesn’t stop here because client has the habit of calling the IFA for every small and big thing. It is equally important to make them aware of this process and how it is important for both the entities involved i.e. IFA and the client. At a later stage one can decide on the level of services as per the categorization of clients.

Some may find it difficult to implement but it is a one-time exercise with multiple benefits.  There is an immense need of corporatization of business and job rotation helps one to achieve that.

It's not a bad idea of giving corporate look to the business and brand yourself a corporate leader.

    All the best for 2014!
