An analysis of the latest AMFI data shows that retail investors average holding size in equity mutual funds was Rs. 61,827 as on June 2015. Retail investors hold more than half of the equity assets of the industry.
Retail investors have invested Rs. 1.95 lakh crore in equity mutual funds, which is 53% of the total Rs. 3.72 lakh crore equity assets of the industry. Around 97% of total equity folios is retail. As on June 2015, of the total 3.2 crore equity folios, retail folios stood at 3.16 crore.
In debt funds, retail average holding size was Rs. 58,467. Retail investors have invested Rs. 35,884 crore in debt funds.
The average holding size in liquid funds was higher at Rs. 1.31 lakh. Retail investors have invested Rs. 3,213 crore in liquid funds.
Overall, the average holding size of retail investors (across all categoies) in mutual funds was Rs. 61,369 crore as on June 2015.

HNI
HNIs have invested Rs. 16,961 crore in liquid funds and their average holding size was Rs. 30 lakh. In debt funds, HNIs have invested Rs. 1.72 lakh crore and their average holding size was Rs. 28 lakh crore.
HNI investment in equity funds was less as compared to retail. HNIs have invested Rs. 1.16 lakh crore in equity funds though their average holding size was Rs. 16 lakh.
Corporates
Corporates held 81% of liquid assets and their investments in liquid funds stood at Rs. 1.68 lakh crore as on June 2015, their average holding size being Rs. 6 crore.
Corporates had invested Rs. 3.06 lakh crore in debt funds, accounting for 58% of the total Rs. 5.30 lakh crore debt assets of the industry. Their average holding size in debt funds was Rs. 2.88 crore.
The average holding size of corporates in equity funds was Rs. 26 lakh.
