Despite the recent slowdown in inflows in equity funds, equity funds have added over 3.62 lakh equity folios in February, shows the latest SEBI data. Equity funds received net inflows of Rs. 2,522 crore in February, down from the peak of over Rs. 12,000 crore net inflows received in June.
While equity folios continued to grow the pace of growth slowed in February as the Sensex fell 8% last month.
With the tax season underway, ELSS funds too saw addition of 1.17 lakh folio in February. As a result, the total equity folio count increased from 3.51 crore in January to 3.56 crore in February.
SEBI data shows that ETFs, which track equity indices, too added 2,730 folios in February, taking the total folio count in this category to 2.67 lakh.
Balanced funds added 54,904 folios in February. The rising interest in balanced funds is evident by the growth in AUM in this category. Balanced funds AUM has jumped by 45% from Rs. 27,015 crore in April 2015 to Rs. 39,104 crore in February 2016.
Apart from equity and balanced funds, debt funds too saw a healthy growth in folios. Debt funds added 1.10 lakh folios in February, mainly due to a slew of FMP launches. The industry launched 34 FMPs which collected Rs. 5,384 crore in February.
Barring gilt funds, Gold ETFs and overseas fund of funds, all other categories saw positive folio growth in February. All in all, the industry added 6.34 lakh folios in February.
