Managing other people’s money is a tricky job. Sometimes the job demands more than just managing clients' money. There are situations when you have to help people move on with life after major life events such as job loss, death of the bread earner of a family and so on.
Mumbai RIA Suresh Sadagopan's book ‘If God Was Your Financial Planner’ is full of such instances, where the advisor follows God's guidance and steps up to help clients deal with critical life situations.
For instance, in one of the chapters, a client is all set to lose his job because of a slowdown in the economy. Similarly, in another chapter, the bread earner of a family passes away suddenly, leaving the family members in lurch. In such critical situations, the advisor comes to the rescue of his clients with prudent financial suggestions.
Talking about these stories, Sadagopan said, “I believe situations like the death of a bread earner of the family, facing relationship crisis due to financial mismanagement, job loss or not having enough savings for retirement calls for some critical life decisions in life.”
To keep the book interesting and relatable, Sadagopan has written it in a story format. What makes the storytelling engrossing is that God himself makes several appearances throughout the book and helps a financial advisor with the wisdom to guide his clients on various financial decisions.
Sadagopan said that the book starts with the basics of financial planning and moves on to explaining the nuances of retirement planning, risk management and so on.
The author feels the book is all the more relevant in the current environment when many clients are facing adverse situations like job loss, death of family members, cash crunch and so on. In such situations, we often question the purpose of life and money.
The book is available on Amazon at Rs.630 in English.
