    MF bulletin: Industry added 7.37 lakh new folios in September

    The quarter gone by brought cheer to the MF industry

    Last quarter was eventful for the MF industry. While the average AUM of the industry is at an all-time high at Rs.28 lakh crore, the MF industry has been witnessing redemptions from equity funds.

    Overall, July-September quarter ended on a good note for the industry compared to April-June quarter in terms of gross redemption.

    AAUM

    Average AUM of the industry was at Rs.27.74 lakh crore in September 2020 compared to Rs.26.07 lakh crore in June 2020.

    Redemptions

    Overall, redemptions came down from the previous quarter as September saw redemptions of Rs.7.18 lakh crore compared to Rs.9.54 lakh crore in June.

    Unique investors and folios

    • The MF industry has added 5.71 lakh new investors in the first half of the current financial year
    • In September, MF industry added 7.37 lakh retail folios. The addition of new folios rose significantly from 5 lakh in June
    • The industry witnessed 13% growth in debt fund folios compared to June quarter to reach 73 lakh
    • Currently, the MF industry has 9.33 crore folios and 2.13 crore unique investors

    T30 vs B30

    • Overall, T30 cities account for Rs.22.34 lakh crore (83%) of the total industry AUM while B30 cities have AUM of Rs.4.52 lakh crore, which is 17% of the total industry AUM
    • AUM in B30 cities rose by 9% to Rs.4.52 lakh crore in September from Rs.4.13 lakh crore in June
    • Similarly, AUM in T30 cities grew by nearly 5% to Rs.22.34 lakh crore from Rs.21.36 lakh crore in June
    • Total folio count has risen marginally in both T30 and B30 cities since the last quarter. Folio count in T30 and B30 cities rose by nearly 2% and 3%, respectively in September

    Average ticket size

    • Average AUM per folio of retail investors has increased by nearly 5% to Rs.1.55 lakh in September compared to the last quarter
    • Compared to the last quarter, while average AUM per folio of retail investors in B30 cities has increased 7% to Rs. 91,200, average AUM per folio in T30 cities grew 5% to Rs.2.02 lakh in September

    ARNs

    • 448 individuals   joined the MF distribution business in September
    • 3,811 ARNs renewed in September– 2,867 individual distributors, 228 corporates and 716 corporate employees
    • Maharashtra holds the top position in terms of new ARN and EUIN registration with 26% followed by Gujarat (9.67%), Uttar Pradesh (8.18%)
