As Tata MF and Cafemutual continue to celebrate the victory of self-belief over challenges, here is Naveen Daga’s inspirational story from the ‘My Self-Belief, My Journey’ contest. The contest was a joint initiative of Tata MF and Cafemutual to highlight the inspiring journeys of MFDs.
Everyone is not born with a silver spoon but they do have determination, perseverance and resilience on their side. This sounds similar to Naveen’s story whose modest beginning led to bigger accomplishments.
Naveen started his career as a cashier in a saree shop in Park Street, Kolkata where he drew a monthly salary of Rs. 1,500. Thereafter, he worked as a marketing executive in an electric cable manufacturing company. Later, in 2002, on his father’s advice, he ventured into the financial distribution.
He started as an insurance advisor and then worked as a mutual fund sub-broker. Naveen always wanted to do something on his own. As there are shops that sell various commodities like clothes, food, medicine, shoes, etc., which make it easier for people to buy on a need basis, Naveen dreamt of having a shop that housed mutual funds. He wanted people to be able to get the right kind of fund with ease and convenience. Finally, in the year 2014, Naveen started his business venture and named it MutualFundShop. He did not shy away from sitting on the footpath to make business calls until he had an office.
Naveen was also fascinated by software and he started learning more. His quest was to facilitate mutual fund transactions seamlessly. Over the years, he upgraded his skills in financial technology and today lends support to mutual fund companies to develop their DIT (distributor initiated transaction) platforms. He is also engaged in working towards simplification of the e-KYC process with fund houses.
As years flew by, Naveen completed almost two decades in the financial industry. Intending to simplify personal finance, he launched his YouTube channel ‘Mutual Fund Shop’ last year. He focuses on making conceptual videos on mutual funds that will continue to be relevant over the long run. For ensuring a qualitative delivery, Naveen writes down the script and hires the services of a professional for other activities.
Naveen’s story personifies Walt Disney’s quote, “All our dreams can come true, if we have the courage to pursue them.” It teaches that a clear vision and determination defines the path to success.
