Here is another inspiring story of the ‘My Self-Belief, My Journey’ contest winner. The contest was launched by Tata MF in collaboration with Cafemutual to applaud the never say die spirit of the MFD community.

Sunil Tukaram Dalvi, a commerce graduate, is professionally qualified from the Institute of Cost and Work Accountants of India. He started his career in the operations team and went on to work in senior roles across his 14-year stint with various fund houses.  His role kept him close to mutual fund business.  He believed a majority of people had not availed the benefits of mutual funds and decided to float a distribution business.

Leaving behind a well-paying job was a tough decision but Sunil followed his passion, when he decided to take the leap in 2014. However, he encountered difficulties in convincing his family and friends but his conviction and wife's support took him closer to his passion.

Sunil faced financial challenges in the first year of operations and couldn’t afford to rent office premises. In fact, he started working from a nearby BMC garden from 9 am to 1 pm and from 3 pm to 7 pm.

His first set of clients were people who used to visit the garden daily. He also approached his friends and family members for business. He advertised about his services by distributing pamphlets through local newspapers. Over the years, he acquired many clients and shifted to an 80 sq ft rented office.

Today, Sunil meets 7 prospects every week. He has also achieved newer milestones - his client base expanded, he moved to a bigger office and developed a back-office team. Sunil now operates through a 7-member team.

Currently, Sunil manages assets under advisory of 75 crore and has over 900 clients. Sunil shares the 4 golden rules to success - knowledge acquisition, self-discipline, patience and adoption of technology.

This is Sunil’s story where he overcame operational and financial barriers to be a successful MFD.

Stay tuned as the remaining 2 stories will unfold soon …

Prateek , what is wrong in being retial centric ? One has expertise in particular area and he is exploiting it. He may be much happier in serving retail clients to make change in their life, by introducing them to Mutual Fund investing. Kudos to Sunil..

Yes and his efforts are really inspiring. Servicing 900 clients can be tough but with a 7 members team I'm sure he is doing it diligently.
