The previous quarter proved to be another rewarding phase for mutual funds. The assets under management (AUM) of MFs remained in the high-growth track in the second quarter (June – September) of FY 2022. In fact, a lot of AMCs including the top ones, registered a quarter-on-quarter growth of over 9%, shows AMFI data.
ICICI Prudential MF emerged as the new no. 2 in the industry as its AUM grew past HDFC MF during the last quarter. ICICI Prudential MF now manages Rs 4.47 lakh crore assets compared to Rs 4.39 lakh crore being handled by HDFC MF.
SBI MF further consolidated its position at the top with the highest AUM growth among the top five. The AUM of the fund house surged 11% in the September quarter to reach 5.78 lakh crore. The difference between the AUM of first placed SBI MF and second placed ICICI Prudential MF is over Rs 1 lakh crore.
Among the top 10, Axis MF and UTI MF registered highest asset growth at 14% and 12% respectively. Axis MF now manages Rs 2.38 lakh crore assets, while UTI MF has assets under management worth Rs 2 lakh crore.
Except for one change at the top (ICICI Prudential MF), the top 20 rankings remain the same.
Fastest growing MFs
As usual, the rate of growth was highest for smaller AMCs due to low base effect. Quant MF doubled its asset base to Rs 3,301 crore from Rs 1,642 crore during the three-month period. PPFAS MF and PGIM India MF followed Quant MF with 41% and 38% growth in assets.
Canara Robeco MF, ITI MF, Union MF, IIFL MF and Trust MF are the other AMCs with over 20% growth in AUM.
