    What MFs bought and sold during December’s market rally

    ICICI Bank and Wipro were the top buys, HCL Technologies and Bharat Electronics were the top sells.

    ICICI Bank, Wipro and Infosys were the top three most bought stocks by mutual funds in December. On the other hand, HCL Technologies, Bharat Electronics and RBL Bank topped the 'most sold stocks' list, according to Edelweiss Alternative Research report.

    Together, mutual funds invested additional Rs. 2,183 crore in ICICI Bank last month. Tech giants Wipro and Infosys received the next highest interest from mutual funds as they invested over Rs. 1,500 crore in each.

    Newly-listed Medplus Health featured next in the list with Rs. 1,400 crore investment from mutual funds in December. Overall, mutual funds invested Rs. 3,380 crore in fresh issuances. CMS Info Sys (Rs. 300 crore), Metro Brands (Rs. 300 crore), Tega Ind (Rs. 280 crore) and RateGain Travel (Rs. 250 crore) were the other major additions.

    Vodafone Idea was the most sold stock as mutual funds trimmed their exposure to the company by Rs. 288 crore. Persistent Systems and Indian Energy Exchange were the next most sold stocks as mutual funds brought down their holdings in the company by Rs. 253 crore and Rs. 214 crore, respectively.

    In the midcap segment, Ipca Labs and Indian Hotels were bought the most. Mutual funds invested Rs. 685 crore and Rs. 486 crore respectively in each stock. Go Fashion, CMS Info System and Tega Industries topped the 'most bought midcap stocks by mutual funds' list.
