2022 began on a good note for the mutual fund industry as SIP inflows rose for the ninth-straight month in January. From Rs. 8,600 crore in May 2021, the figure rose every month to reach Rs. 11,517 crore in January 2022, shows latest AMFI data.

The industry has also reached a major milestone last month as the number of SIP accounts crossed the 5-crore mark.

Equity funds led by flexicap and thematic funds have registered a net inflow of Rs. 14,888 crore last month. Debt funds have seen a net inflow of Rs. 5,088 crore.

Commenting on the data, AMFI CEO NS Venkatesh said, "Retail mutual fund investor confidence in the India growth story, as reflected through continued all time higher quantum of monthly SIP flows and with economy expected to rise at projected 9.2%, has overshadowed the uncertainties arising out of external factors like Fed Rate hike or FII outflows."
