The Ministry of Finance has appointed Madhabi Puri Buch as the new chairperson of the SEBI, said a media report. The official confirmation is expected by today evening.
With this, Madhabi has become the first woman to become SEBI chairperson. She has succeeded Ajay Tyagi.
Prior to this, Madhabi was the whole-time member of SEBI. She headed investment division which includes mutual funds.
Prior to SEBI, Madhabi was serving as a consultant to the New Development Bank, Shanghai. Having held various senior-level positions in the private sector in the past, she is the first whole time woman member of the board. She has also worked with ICICI Securities as the MD and CEO.
Madhabi is an alumnus of the prestigious Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Ahmedabad and is a mathematics graduate from St. Stephen's College, New Delhi.
