The number of individual ARN holders dipped 10% in the first quarter of FY 2023 as AMFI invalidated expired ARNs for the first time post Covid.
AMFI data shows that the number of valid ARNs declined from 1.16 lakh on March 31, 2022 to 1.05 lakh on June 30, 2022. The slump in ARN count mostly happened in April when the figure declined 15% to 98,700. The count recovered in the next two months to reach 1.05 lakh at the end of June.
The decline in ARN count is a result of multiple extensions in ARN renewal deadlines due to covid-19, said industry insiders. The extensions ensured that even those ARNs which expired post March 15, 2020 remained active till March 31, 2022. Finally, in April, AMFI took up the exercise of invalidating expired ARNs.
The decline in ARN count was higher in the case of T-30 locations compared to that of B-30. While T-30 ARN tally declined 11% during the quarter, the B-30 count dropped 9%, shows AMFI data.
The new individual ARN registrations remained above 1,500 in the first three months of FY 2023 but they were lower than the above 2,000 monthly registrations seen during the January - March 2022 period.
