Nippon India MF, ICICI Prudential MF and HDFC MF were the top three players in terms of MF folios in December 2023.
Put together, these three fund houses manage over 5.62 crore MF folios in the MF industry.
Nippon India MF tops the table with 2.25 crore folios whereas ICICI Prudential MF and HDFC MF captured the next two spots with 1.88 crore and 1.49 folios, respectively.
Both Nippon India MF and ICICI Prudential MF continue to retain their top spots in December 2023 in terms of folio count.
However, the next four rankings underwent a change. HDFC MF moved to third spot by overtaking Axis MF, UTI MF and SBI MF. Similarly, SBI MF secured fourth position by moving one position up. Their folio count stood at 1.49 crore and 1.36 crore in December 2023, respectively.
On the other hand, Axis MF and UTI MF, both slipped two positions down. With 1.25 crore and 1.23 crore, they occupy the fifth and sixth rank, respectively.
Notably, these are the only six fund houses where the folio count is above Rs 1 crore.
The next four rankings remained unchanged - Aditya Birla Sun Life MF, DSP MF, Kotak MF and Mirae Asset stayed on the seventh, eighth, ninth and tenth spots.
Let us look at the top 10 fund houses in terms of folio count.

In terms of new folio addition, HDFC MF takes the lead. The fund house added 41.57 lakh new folios over the last year. Likewise, with an addition of 35.22 lakh and 26.52 lakh folios, Nippon India MF and ICICI Prudential MF made it to the top three.
Additionally, SBI MF and Kotak MF were the other two fund houses with a new folio addition of over 10 lakh. Their new folio count were 17.66 lakh and 11.85 lakh in December 2023, respectively.
However, in percentage terms, WhiteOak Capital MF takes the top spot with a significant jump of 205%, which is due to low base effect.
Apart from this, five more fund houses reported over 30% growth. These were LIC MF (40%), HDFC MF (39%), Mahindra Manulife MF (37%), PPFAS MF (33%) and Motilal Oswal MF (31).
