The beginning of the calendar year 2024 started on a healthy note with the MF industry adding 9.70 lakh new investors in January 2024.
The total number of mutual fund investors now stands at 4.30 crore in Jan 2024, shows the industry data.
On average, the industry added 4.5 lakh new investors per month during 2023, indicating that the industry added twice the number of investors it added last year.

Folio count
The mutual fund industry saw an increase of close to 47 lakh new folios, bringing the total folio count to 17 crore, compared to 16.49 crore folios in December 2023.

T30 and B30 assets
Of the total AUM of Rs. 53 lakh crore, 81% of the total MF assets or Rs.43 lakh crore came from T-30 locations. The rest 19% of the total MF assets were from B30 locations with an AUM of Rs.10 lakh crore.

Average AUM per folio
Retail investors' average AUM per folio was Rs.1.92 lakh. Overall, the MF industry has an average AUM per folio of about Rs.3.11 lakh (retail + corporate).

SIP accounts
The MF industry added 52 lakh new SIP accounts while 24 lakh SIP accounts were discontinued. This indicates that the industry saw a net addition of 28 lakh new SIP accounts. The total number of SIP accounts reached 7.92 crore, with equity schemes accounting for 83% of the total SIP accounts, totaling 6.56 crore.

ARN/EUIN registration and renewal
Over 4,600 distributors joined the MF industry of which 2,600 were individual MFDs.
Maharashtra with 30% is the top contributor to new ARN registration. Uttar Pradesh (9.82%), Gujarat (9.37%) and Karnataka (7.09%) were the next three contributors.
In terms of ARN renewals, close to 4,440 distributors renewed their ARN. Of this, 1,533 were corporate employees and 2,744 were individual MFDs.
