    Individual investors contribution in MF AUM goes up from 58% in 2019 to 63% in 2024

    Equity schemes have also increased their contribution in MF AUM from 37% in 2019 to 44% in 2024

    Cafemutual’s analysis of AMFI data shows that the contribution of individual investors in MF AUM has gone up from 58% in 2019 to 63% in 2024. In absolute terms, individual AUM has increased from Rs. 13.81 lakh crore in 2019 to Rs. 33.87 lakh crore in 2024, a 145% increase in 5 years.

    Among individual investors, the AUM of retail investors has grown from Rs. 6.30 lakh crore in 2019 to Rs. 14.94 lakh crore in 2024. The contribution of retail investors in total MF AUM has inched up from 26.5% in 2019 to 28% in 2024.

    Meanwhile, HNI AUM has also increased from Rs. 7.52 lakh crore in 2019 to Rs. 18.94 lakh crore in 2024. The contribution of HNIs in MF AUM has increased in this period from 31.6% to 35.5%.

    In terms of fund categories, the contribution of individual investors in equity AUM has gone up from Rs. 8.92 lakh crore in 2019 to Rs. 23.53 lakh crore in 2024.

    In terms of debt schemes, their AUM has increased marginally from Rs. 11.66 lakh crore in 2019 to Rs. 12.86 lakh crore in 2024.

    Looking at hybrid schemes, the share of individual assets in hybrid funds has increased from Rs. 1.81 lakh crore in 2019 to Rs. 7.22 lakh crore in 2024.

    Mumbai MFD, Vatsal Shah from Sushil Finance said healthy performance of equity funds has attracted many investors to mutual funds. He also pointed out that AMFI MF Sahi Hai campaign and focus of MFDs on equity funds have added to the growth of individual assets in mutual funds.

    Indore MFD Rajesh Kulwal from Duoak Finserv feels that the MF industry has added many first time investors during the last 5 years.

    Sandeep Bagla, CEO, Trust MF said that many people look at the past performance to invest money and many schemes have done well over the last five years. He said, “The strong performance of equity market in the recent years has formed a cult of equity investment, which is why we see investors choosing equity schemes.”
