Sandesh had joined Kotak Mutual Fund as its CIO – Debt in 1999.

Sandesh Kirkire, Chief Executive Officer of Kotak Mutual Fund is said to have put in his papers.

Although there is no official word from the fund house regarding his exit, sources close to the development said that he is currently serving his notice period and his last day at Kotak is likely to be September 30th.

Sources also said that Sandesh is likely to be replaced by someone within the Kotak Group.

A veteran in the mutual fund industry, Sandesh had joined Kotak Mutual Fund in 1999 as its CIO – Debt. He served as CIO for six years after which he was appointed as the CEO of Kotak AMC in May 2005.  Prior to joining Kotak Mutual Fund Sandesh was a part of Kotak Mahindra Group.

Sandesh Kirkire is a Mechanical Engineer and holds a Masters degree in Management Studies from Jamnalal Bajaj Institute of Management Studies (JBIMS).

An SMS sent to Sandesh did not elicit any response. Kotak AMC officials also refused to comment on this.

Sandesh is held in high regard by his colleagues and peers. There is speculation that he is to start his own angel investing firm. A couple of industry seniors Cafemutual spoke to said it would be a loss for the MF industry if this news turns out to be correct.

He is currently the Vice Chairman of AMFI.  Kotak Mutual Fund manages assets under management of Rs. 35,521 crore as on June 2014.
