A report released by AMFI and CRISIL shows that the MF Industry had 37,376 women distributors as on December 2024. This is 21.5% of the total registered MFDs in India.

Currently, the MF industry has 1.74 lakh individual MFDs as on December 2024.

AMFI feels that women MFDs can bring in a greater number of women clients in the MF industry. It said, “Effective investment advice and handholding can play a significant role in shaping investment behavior and it is likely that the growing pool of knowledgeable and experienced distributors has contributed to the increasing trend of long-term investing among women. And who better to handhold a woman investor than a woman herself, since she may understand the financial planning needs better.”

Further, the data reveals that 79% of women AUM in mutual funds are in regular plans indicating their preference in working with MFDs.

However, the proportion of women assets in direct plans have grown substantially. It has grown from 8.8% in 2019 to 21.3% in 2024.

Here are other key insights of women investors:

    • The AUM of women investors in mutual funds have gone up from Rs.4.59 lakh crore in FY 2019 to Rs.11.25 lakh crore in FY 2024
    • 33% of the total assets by individual investors has come from women
    • In terms of women investors, 1 in 4 unique investors in the MF industry is a woman

I feel the large number of women MFDs is due to men MFDs taking additional ARNs on their wives' names due to some reasons. So some number of the ARNs in women's names are not actively participating ARNs.

That in fact is not factual. A number of women ARN holders are simply because their men are actively engaged somewhere else and they cannot take the permission fir this business.
