The latest MF industry data shows that 3.19 lakh new investors have joined the mutual fund fold in the month of May. With this, the number of unique investors investing in MFs has increased from 5.46 crore to 5.49 crore.
Further, the average AUM per folio of the industry in T30 & B30 locations has witnessed an increase for the third month in a row. In T30 locations, the average AUM per folio has increased from Rs. 2.58 lakh to Rs. 2.67 lakh in the month of May. In B30 locations, the average AUM per folio has grown from Rs. 1 lakh to Rs. 1.03 lakh during the last month. The combined retail average AUM per folio (T30+B30) has also recorded an increase from Rs. 1.82 lakh to Rs. 1.88 lakh, an increase of over 3%.
The folio count of the industry has seen a similar increase of 20 lakh to go from 23.63 lakh to 23.83 lakh during May. Other important data of the industry is given below:
T30 & B30 AUM
- Assets in T30 cities have increased by about 3% from Rs. 56.84 lakh crore to Rs. 58.50 lakh crore during the month of May
- The regular plan AUM in T30 cities has increased from Rs. 29.67 lakh crore to Rs. 30.71 lakh crore showing a 3.5% rise while direct assets in T30 locations surged by over 2% from Rs. 27.17 lakh crore to Rs. 27.79 lakh crore
- B30 assets have also seen a 4% increase in May to go from Rs. 13.16 lakh crore to Rs. 13.70 lakh crore in this period
- The regular plan B30 AUM has increased from Rs. 9.87 lakh crore to Rs. 10.26 lakh crore while direct assets in B30 cities have grown from Rs. 3.29 lakh crore to Rs. 3.44 lakh crore in this period
T30 & B30 folio count
- T30 cities have contributed half of the incremental folios of the industry with an addition of 10 lakh folios to take its folio count to 12.43 crore
- B30 cities have seen a similar increase with its folio count rising from 11.30 crore to 11.40 crore
SIP data
- The total number of outstanding SIP accounts has increased 8.89 crore to 9.05 crore in May with 16.5 lakh new SIP registrations recorded during the month
- SIP contribution has increased marginally from Rs. 26,632 crore to Rs. 26,688 crore
- SIP assets have recorded an over 5% increase to go from Rs. 13.90 lakh crore to Rs. 14.61 lakh crore in May
NFO
- May saw 19 new fund launches with passives recording 14 new funds, 7 index funds and 7 non-commodity ETFs
- 3 of the new funds belonged to the equity segment with 1 new multi cap fund and 2 new sectoral and thematic funds
- Hybrid and debt funds also had 1 new scheme launch during the month
ARN registration
- 5,004 new ARNs were registered during May out of which 2,493 were from corporate employees while 2,292 were from individuals
- Corporates contributed to 206 new registrations while 202 were from private limited companies and partnership firms
- Individual MFDs made 12 new ARN registrations while public limited companies made 2 registrations. NBFCs and banks also made 1 registration each during the month
- Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh recorded the highest share of ARN registrations made during May with 19.50% and 9.91% registrations, respectively
- Gujarat, West Bengal and Tamil Nadu were next with 9.69%, 6.73% and 5.68% share in the new registrations, respectively
- The total ARN holder count of the industry is at 3.03 lakh with 45% holders from B30 cities while 55% are from T30 cities
ARN renewal
- May recorded 7,315 new ARN renewals, out of which individuals accounted for 4,189 renewals
- Corporate employees contributed to 2,928 renewals while corporates renewed 191 ARNs
- The remaining 7 renewals were made by individual MFD employees
