Demystifying the concept of mutual funds through digital media

DSP BlackRock MF has launched a website to spread financial awareness among people.
    Nishant Patnaik Nov 17, 2016

Digital is the new buzz word. Many fund houses are increasingly adopting YouTube, Facebook and Twitter to connect with masses, especially youngsters.

The latest entrant in this league is DSP BlackRock MF which has gone digital to create financial awareness among the masses. The fund house has launched a dedicated website called ‘dspblackrock.com/learn’ to help people learn the concept of investments and mutual funds in a fun way. The website aims to demystify investments by explaining financial jargon like inflation, rupee cost averaging, mutual funds and SIP, primarily through video content.

Interestingly, this website will use gamification tools to engage with investors in a fun way. Just like the stages in videogames, this website has segregated contents in three levels – beginner, intermediate and advanced. The idea is to encourage people to go to next level by giving them points and badges which they can showcase on their social media account.

Aditi Kothari Desai, Head - Sales, E-Business and Marketing, DSP BlackRock Mutual Fund said that the idea is to spread awareness among people about money management. “Video content is a popular and cost effective way to reach out to masses, especially young people. Also, we can simplify these concepts in an effective way through videos. On top of that, if a user face difficulty in streaming video, he/she can very well read the script just below the video content. The content revolves around simplifying financial investments. We pick up topics like inflation, budget and liquid funds and try to explain in such a way that a layman can understand. The videos are meant for both advisors and investors. Advisors can use these videos to explain basic concepts of investments and importance of mutual funds.”

Hemendra Kothari, Chairman, DSP BlackRock Mutual Fund said, “DSP BlackRock’s continuing and well recognized endeavours in the digital space over the last couple of years are a reflection of our belief in the power of digital. Our new investor education portal is an extension of this belief. We are excited and enthusiastic and hope that the website is consumed and liked by all.”

So far, over 60 lakh users have consumed DSP BlackRock Mutual Fund’s investor education content which includes over 100+ videos, informative articles and other digital initiatives. Through this platform, DSP BlackRock Mutual Fund aims to educate an incremental one crore investors in over 200 cities across India by 2017.
