Lovaii Navlakhi of International Money Matters shares his learnings from cricket and his plans to watch the World Cup finals.
How do you rate India’s chances of winning in this cricket World Cup?
At the present moment, 25%. After the first semi-final the chances of India winning could go up to 33%. I think the last three games will depend on who performs better on the day - each team is equally well equipped.
What are your plans to watch World Cup final and semi-finals?
The finals will be exciting depending on who is playing - India definitely will have me glued in and clued on. I’ll follow the semi-finals sporadically on cricinfo app as we are working on those days.
Have you bunked school, college or office to watch India’s match ever? Any story which you would like to share?
I might have bunked college for a test match – can’t recall; if I did, it was something quite common in those days.
Your favourite world cup moment?
On television, the Indian team rushing back to Lords as the crowds surged in. Live, the winning lap with Sachin Tendulkar on the shoulders at Wankhede; followed by the (normally) 20 minute walk home, which took over two hours, with high fives being exchanged every few seconds.
Who is your favourite cricketer?
Rohit Sharma – underrated, and over criticised.
What are the similarities between cricket and investing?
Discipline is the key. Watching it happen is boring just like test cricket. Repetitive good shots like Gavaskar’s straight drive and cutting out the risks by no hooking, result in tall scores and continued replicable success.
Which Indian player in the World Cap squad would make the best fund manager?
R Ashwin – as he has the guile & is not flashy.
What have you learned from cricket?
It’s a team game. Luck can get you going some times, but skill is needed to take you far. And discipline is the tonic that gives rise to skill.
