The equity mutual fund assets increased 20% from Rs. 2.62 lakh crore in October to Rs. 3.15 lakh crore in November, shows SEBI data.

Thanks to market rally, flurry of fund launches and inflows in existing funds, the equity mutual fund asset base crossed Rs.3.15 lakh crore in November 30, shows SEBI data.

This was evident from the 1.06 lakh increase in equity folio count in November. The latest SEBI data shows that the industry has added over 1.57 lakh folios across all scheme categories in November 2014. The total folio count (across all categories) increased to 3.99 crore in November, up 1% from 3.97 crore in October.

Retail investors have flocked to equity funds due to the optimism surrounding the market and the stellar returns delivered by equity funds, say distributors. According to Value Research data, mid and small cap funds have delivered 85% returns, the highest among all categories. The S&P BSE Sensex was up 3% or 828 points in November. The Sensex crossed 28,000 mark in November while CNX Nifty too touched an all-time high of 8588 points.

Barring liquid funds and fund of funds investing overseas, all other categories saw an addition in folios in November. The industry added close to 19,248 folios in debt funds and 3123 folios in gilt funds in November.

Meanwhile, after witnessing a steady decline in folio count in gold ETFs, the category has made a comeback by adding 14,000 folios in November. ETFs which track the equity indices added 164 folios.
