Motilal Oswal, Franklin Templeton and Axis have launched a social media campaign to highlight the role of financial advisers among investors.

In a first of its kind initiative, mutual fund houses are taking to social media platforms like YouTube, Facebook, twitter and whatsapp to talk to investors about importance of having a financial adviser in their lives.

Motilal Oswal, Franklin Templeton and Axis have launched social media campaigns to highlight the role of financial advisers.

Motilal Oswal Mutual Fund has recently released a video on Youtube in which Aashish Somaiyaa, CEO, Motilal Oswal AMC, talks about the role of advisers. In a 10-min video, Somaiyaa draws an example from the Bollywood movie ‘Munna Bhai MBBS’, “In the movie, Boman Irani who plays the role of a dean in a medical college explains to students that he can operate on anybody with his rock-steady hands; however, his hands would shiver if he were to operate his daughter. This dialogue has a deep message. One needs to control emotions while investing money. Many investors take wrong decisions due to emotional bias. A financial adviser can help overcome such mistakes. Second example can be drawn from pharmaceutical industry. There are drugs available for virtually all ailments. Then why do we go to doctors for consulting? The answer is quite simple, when it comes to medical health we never compromise. But when it comes to financial health, we often like to do it ourselves. Remember if your financial health is not good you have to live a painful life.”

Somaiyaa is of the view that investors should never invest directly; instead, they should invest take professional advice. Sharing the rationale behind this campaign, he said, “The idea is to make people aware about importance of financial advisers through social networking.” Click here to watch this video.

Similarly, Axis mutual fund has featured advisers like Rajesh Hattangady, Manish Goel and Ramkumar H Barchha in order to promote their Shubhchintak. Shubhchintak is a platform which provides email enterprise, tools, data analysis, risk profiling and goal planning for IFAs.

So far, the fund house has released four videos each of which featured a client explaining how their financial adviser has helped them achieve financial freedom in life. Though the series was launched to promote Shubhchintak, it has helped create awareness about the need for financial advisors among investors. Click here to watch this video.

Also, the fund house has another series in which they have featured a few advisers like Ashish Goel, Prasad Sangam, Gurushankar and Ravindra Kulkarni to promote Shubhchintak.

Earlier this year, Franklin Templeton had also released an animated video on Youtube explaining importance of financial advisers as part of its investor awareness program (IAP). The video cites an example of consulting a doctor for ill health despite availability of free online consultancy and drug advice at pharmaceutical shop. Just like doctors are for good health, investment advisor can help grow money, emphasized the campaign.

The campaign says that financial advisers can assess the investor’s current financial situation once they understand the investor’s financial situation. Advisers can help investors outline short, medium and long term goals in line with their risk profile and give advice on product selection. Moreover, an adviser reviews and monitors the portfolio, suggesting course correction where required.  Further the campaign says that the adviser can play many roles such as tax planner, estate planning, succession planning.
