The huge collection in NFO of mutual funds of late has raised lot of eyebrows.
Is it wise to invest in new funds @10/ per unit when there are existing schemes of same theme & objective with proven track record . The timing is not very conduicive as we are sitting at all time high level with PE multiples way above historic level. SEBI initially had come with lot of education & awareness campaign making investors aware that buying units at 10/is one & the same as buying existing units at prevailing NAVs if the objective of the scheme is same as risk remains the same at that level
I as Mutual fund advisor & distributor for last four decades believe that as there is cap on IPO ,there should be some upper limit on case of mutual fund NFO also as there is huge appetite or oversubscription as witnessed recently in icici pru or SBI MF ,the extra subscription should be refunded otherwise the performance of scheme will suffer and fundmanagement will be a biig challenge.
This should be in force as the investors inflow in to MF is going to increase leaps and bounds.
