    AUM of passive funds crosses Rs.8 lakh crore

    AMFI data shows that the MF industry manages over Rs.5.50 lakh crore through equity index funds and ETFs.

    AMFI data shows that the AUM of passive funds grew to Rs.8.04 lakh crore in November 2023. Majority of passive AUM has come from equity ETFs and equity oriented index funds. The data reveals that the MF industry manages over Rs.5.50 lakh crore through domestic equity index funds and ETFs.

    Further, the data shows that passive funds witnessed net inflows of over Rs.2200 crore last month.  Majority of inflows came in equity ETFs and equity index funds.

    Let us look at some key highlights of passives.

    Net inflows/outflows

    Among ETFs, domestic equity ETFs recorded the highest net inflow of over Rs. 2,283 crore. On the other hand, equity ETFs focusing on international markets recorded net inflows of Rs.55 crore. However, debt ETFs saw net outflows of Rs.1400 crore.

    In terms of index funds, equity index funds focusing on domestic indices recorded net inflows of Rs. 1,833 crore.

    On debt side, target maturity index funds recorded net outflows of Rs. 500 crore whereas other debt index funds recorded net inflows of Rs. 25 crore.

    While gold ETF recorded net inflows of Rs. 333 crore considering the festival season, silver ETFs saw net outflows of Rs.20 crore.

    AUM

    While the industry manages AUM of close to Rs.4.70 lakh crore through domestic equity ETFs, it manages AUM of Rs.9500 crore through international equity ETFs. Domestic equity index funds manage assets of Rs.72,000 crore.

    Number of Schemes

    The MF industry has 135 domestic equity ETFs, the highest across all categories. Further, the industry manages over 100 index funds and 75 target maturity funds as on November 2023.
