    Passives AUM stands at Rs.9.22 lakh crore

    Passive funds now contribute 17% to the MF industry AUM.

    AMFI data shows that the AUM of passive funds grew to Rs.9.22 lakh crore in March 2024 from Rs 6.67 lakh crore, growth of 38% in one year.

    Majority of passive AUM has come from equity ETFs and index funds. Of the total passives AUM, Rs.6.40 lakh crore has come from domestic equity ETFs and index funds.

    While equity ETFs that track Indian indices command AUM of Rs 5.40 lakh crore, domestic equity index funds have AUM of Rs 96,100 crore.

    Let us look at the key highlights of passives in March 2024:

    • Passives witnessed net monthly inflows of over Rs.13,000 crore. Among passives, domestic equity ETFs recorded the highest net inflows of over Rs. 10,000 crore
    • ETFs that track debt indices saw net inflows of Rs.29 crore
    • In index funds, equity index funds focusing on domestic indices recorded net inflows of Rs. 2,871 crore
    • On debt side, target maturity index funds recorded net outflows of Rs. 1,100 crore whereas other debt index funds recorded net inflows of Rs. 7 crore
    • In commodity segment, while gold ETF recorded net inflows of Rs. 373 crore, silver ETFs saw net outflows of Rs.225 crore
    • The MF industry has 145 domestic equity ETFs. Further, the industry manages over 100 domestic equity index funds and 78 target maturity funds as on March 2024
    • Overall, there are 469 passive schemes as of March 2024
