Jamia Hamdard is planning to start a two-year MBA course in insurance from this academic year. The course, comprising four semesters, will be run under School of Management and Business Studies. Officials said this course is important for students to explore the insurance sector, which has been largely underdeveloped in the country.
The varsity's vice-chancellor Seyed Hasnain said India contributes only 1.5% to the world's total insurance premium. "This is despite the country being one of the fastest growing economies. We are emerging as a world superpower, but have very few people getting themselves insured. The country is lagging behind in the insurance sector," he added.

Hasnain said the course will not only help create trained professionals, but will allow for research in this sector, create awareness and, thus, a market for all kinds of insurances.
