The two government-run pension schemes Atal Pension Yojana (APY) and National Pension System (NPS) offer the maximum benefits post-retirement. Both the schemes are administered by the Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority (PFRDA). NPS was initially launched only for government employees but was opened up for all the Indian citizens in 2009. APY was launched by Finance Minister Arun Jaitley in 2015 and focuses more on the unorganised sector.
