A few days ago, when Sebi banned upfront commissions from being paid for mutual fund investments, I had written that this was a very big deal and it would align the incentives of investors and the salesperson in a fundamental way. Many knowledgeable investors were sceptical, no doubt out of bitter experience. However, when one looks at the actual past examples of bad advice and anti-investor behaviour by salespersons, then one can see what will change.
