Big bank mergers positive, but anchor lender stocks to take a knock: Analysts

The banking consolidation will result in the merger of 10 banks into 4 banking behemoths.

Banking analysts termed Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman's big-bang bank mergers a huge long-term positive for Indian banking, but cautioned investors that shares of anchor lenders in these amalgamations are likely to take a hit in the short term. But industry watchers also said the bold government move would immediately earn a re-rating for the sector .
