Can you buy health insurance cover for mental illnesses?

14.2 percentage of the total population of the country suffering from mental disorders of varying intensity, as of 2017. This is 197.3 million people or one in seven persons. However, the question is can you buy health cover for mental illnesses.

Even as the Covid-19 pandemic triggered a rise in cases of depression and anxiety, the problem was pushed into the forefront after actor Sushant Singh Rajput’s failed struggle against depression, and suicide on 14 June 2020. As of 2017, there are 197.3 million Indians who suffer from varying severities of mental disorders, according to a study charting mental illnesses in India from 1990-2017, which was published in The Lancet.
