Is this market-linked debenture a panacea for a volatile market?

After Budget 2023 put a dampener on market-linked debentures (MLD) by changing its tax structure from equity to debt, the instrument had lost its glitter. But with equity markets turning volatile at the start of the year after a terrific run in 2023 wealth managers (and even fund managers for that matter) have been advising investors to invest in products that either do asset allocation for you or at least try and protect the downside.
