Mint50: ‘Right’ fund is better than ‘best’ fund

    Source: Livemint Feb 8, 2016

Cutting out the noise in the stock markets and giving away your money to a professional fund manager of a mutual fund (MF) may be the right thing to do for many of us, but it isn’t as simple as that. There are more than 3,000 schemes in the Rs.13-trillion Indian MF industry spread across 43 fund houses. There are about 560 equity funds, more than 700 debt funds and 1,107 fixed maturity plans (FMP). Let’s not even get down to which is the best scheme because there is no such thing as the best MF scheme. The correct way to go ahead is to find out the right scheme. But how do you decide upon the right scheme from this maze of 3,000 (and counting) schemes? Enter Mint50.

This is Mint’s curated list of 50 MF schemes across categories, which we shortlist after much research of the MF universe to bring you a list of schemes that aim to give you consistent returns, follow a reasonable strategy taking measured risks and are managed by experienced fund managers.
