DYK: You have to give an indemnity bond if you lose your life insurance policy docket

    Source: Livemint Feb 8, 2016

To make a life insurance claim, it’s important to have a copy of your policy docket. If you lose it, while there is no single process to get a duplicate docket, insurers follow a broadly similar method for this.

What is an insurance policy docket?

An insurance policy is a written document issued by a life insurance company to a policyholder, which states the insurance contract between the company and the policyholder. A docket consists of the policy document, claims form and a copy of the proposal made before the policy was bought by the consumer. It is similar to the kit that one gets while opening a bank account, which has important documents such as personal identification numbers (PINs), customer ID, list of charges and fees, and so on. An insurance policy docket is similar, however, contents differ for life and general insurance.
