Closed-end equity funds shift to safer bets as maturity nears

As maturity date nears amid an uncertain market environment, a handful of closed-end equity schemes launched three years ago are preparing to ensure investors are offered a soft landing.

Three schemes — IDFC Equity Opportunity Series1, ICICI Prudential Value Fund 1 and 2 — will be maturing in the coming months. Another fund, L&T Emerging Businesses Fund will be maturing in May, but will continue as an openended scheme. The fund managers of these schemes have been deftly manoeuvring their portfolios over the past few months to ride out the market weakness and ensure that investors are given healthy returns.
