E-filing of income tax return (ITR) is not complete until it is e-verified or the tax department receives a signed copy of ITR-V (acknowledgement). Earlier, one had to either put a digital signature or take its print out, sign it and send it to the tax department’s processing centre to verify the ITR-V. But since the previous assessment year (AY) 2015-16, e-verification of ITR-V through one-time password (OTP), either through Aadhaar or Internet banking, has been introduced. Tax returns are pending for those who filed their return in due time but have failed to send their ITR-V between AY2009-10 and AY2014-15. Such assessees can complete the process now.
