Do you know that a fortnight back around 93 people died in India due to monsoon lightning strikes? As per government data, in 2014, about 20,000 people in India were killed in incidents involving the forces of nature. Death due to monsoon lightning was the leading cause of deaths followed by heat stroke, floods and landslides.
The country is seeing an unprecedented rise of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) such as cancer, diabetes, cardiovascular diseases and even mental disorders.
According to World Health Organization, an estimated 60% of all deaths in India in the year 2014 were largely due to non-communicable diseases. Leading the list was cardiovascular disease which accounted for 26% of deaths followed by chronic respiratory diseases which stood at 13% followed by cancer (7%) and diabetes (2%).
