Tracking portfolios of mutual funds (MFs), or for that matter, those of foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) does not always spin sure-shot gains.
This was proven true for those buying at least half of top 20 picks of mutual funds of last one year. These stocks even failed to deliver returns equal to that of Sensex, which grew 8.5 per cent.
Of the top 20 stocks where mutual funds have raised their stakes by up to 8 per cent, or 800 basis points since last September, nine have performed poorly since last Diwali, while seven managed to generate eye-popping returns.
