One big problem with the NPS is that there is lack of tax parity with the EPF. The Finance Ministry justifies the EET treatment of NPS because of the higher returns from equities. But this is a flawed argument since equity mutual funds enjoy tax exemption. All pension products should have the same tax treatment. Either way, the comparison is only relevant for workers already in the EPF, which wasn’t the target audience anyway.
